EARTHQUAKE-RESISTANT HOUSE PROJECT
Although great progress has been made in the study of earthquakes, it is still not
possible to predict exactly when an earthquake will occur or how strong it will be.
Therefore, it is clear that we must take precautions against earthquakes.
In this project, my aim is to reduce the energy and destructive potential of earthquake
shaking by increasing the movement capability of the house when we are inside it during
an earthquake.
By using the repulsive force between magnets placed under the house and magnets placed
on the ground with opposite poles, a part of the house loses its direct connection with the
ground. In this way, during an earthquake the house remains suspended in the air. Even if
the ground shakes, the house stays away from the vibration.
Materials
While building my project, I used the following materials:
Pencil, stick, felt, battery holder, batteries, a small light bulb, a large round magnet,
colored cardboard, wood, silicone gun, silicone, super glue, and plastic glass.
Construction Steps
1. I used pencils to build a triangular frame.
2. I glued sticks on top of the pencils.
3. I glued felt on top of the sticks.
4. I attached the house windows using plastic glass.
5. I took three magnets and glued two of them on top of the sticks.
6. I glued colored cardboard onto a wooden base.
7. I glued magnets onto that cardboard.
8. A house model appeared, and I glued the battery holder inside the house.
9. Then I inserted the batteries.
10. I took the light bulb and attached it to the ceiling of the house.
11. I glued the switch to the side of the house.
12. Finally, I attached a support to the back of the house. The result was a “Floating
House.”
Why did I make the “Floating House”?
Because I do not want any child, baby, adult, or living being in the world to die because
of earthquakes. I also do not want people to suffer financial losses.
